Mental Health Advisor – Further Education

About the Role

New City College is seeking a dedicated and proactive Mental Health Advisor to support learners experiencing mental health concerns and wider wellbeing needs. Working alongside the Group Mental Health & Wellbeing Manager, you will provide early-intervention support, guidance and advocacy, helping students access appropriate services and remain engaged with their education.

This is a part-time, two-year fixed-term role, working 28 hours per week (0.7 FTE), term-time only. Working days will be discussed during the recruitment process. The full-time equivalent salary is £42,000 to £44,200, with an actual salary of £29,400 to £30,900 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.

Applicants should hold a relevant mental health qualification or demonstrate substantial experience in the field. You will need experience of supporting young people and adults with varied mental health needs, together with sound knowledge of safeguarding, child protection and mental health-related issues.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide guidance, advocacy and targeted support for learners experiencing mental health concerns or conditions.

• Operate an effective triage and referral service for students referred or self-referring to the Mental Health & Wellbeing team.

• Deliver mental health awareness training, workshops, events and campaigns across college campuses.

• Build productive partnerships with external mental health agencies, community organisations and NHS services.

• Maintain accurate case records, monitor interventions and evaluate the impact of support.

• Provide relevant wellbeing information, resources and signposting to students and staff.

• Track learner progress and deliver interventions that support retention and achievement.

• Keep up to date with developments in mental health practice and share effective approaches across the college.
