New City College is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Electrical and Plumbing Technician to support teaching and learning within the Construction department at its Hackney Campus. This practical role will help ensure that electrical and plumbing workshops are well prepared, safely managed and equipped to provide students with an engaging, industry-relevant learning experience.
The position is permanent, working 35 hours per week for 40 weeks per year (0.88 FTE). The working year runs from mid-August to mid-July. The full-time equivalent salary is £32,000 to £37,300, with an actual salary of £27,800 to £32,600, plus a £1,248 Central London Allowance. The preferred start date is as soon as possible, and the closing date is 6 September 2026 at 11:59pm.
Applicants should bring a relevant electrical or plumbing qualification, or suitable trade experience, alongside practical knowledge of traditional and modern techniques. Strong organisation, problem-solving ability and a sound understanding of workshop health and safety are essential. Experience in construction, multi-skills or a related technical discipline would be advantageous. The successful candidate will also be willing to work towards an Assessor’s Award.
Visa sponsorship is not available. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK and be willing to complete an enhanced DBS check and all other required pre-employment checks.
Prepare materials, tools and equipment for practical lessons and assessments.
Set up and demonstrate tools, machinery and equipment safely and effectively.
Maintain and repair workshop equipment, keeping accurate servicing records.
Organise and store resources in line with college procedures.
Support students during practical sessions and reinforce safe working practices.
Monitor stock, order supplies and recycle materials where appropriate.
Provide responsive technical support to teaching staff and students.
Maintain a professional, safe and high-quality workshop environment.
