Baby Room Advanced Teaching Assistant

About the Role

Childhaven Community Nursery School is seeking an experienced Advanced Teaching Assistant to join its Baby Room in Scarborough. Working with children aged 0 to 2 in the Penguins key group, you will support a nurturing, child-led provision in which sleeping, eating and learning experiences are tailored to each child’s needs and stage of development.

The post is 30 hours per week across four days, term time only, with the precise working pattern to be confirmed. It is a fixed-term contract until at least July 2027, dependent on pupil need, with a preferred start date as soon as possible. The salary is £13.47 to £14.13 per hour, Grade E, equivalent to £17,511 to £18,369 per year for the stated working pattern.

You will need a relevant NVQ Level 3 qualification in Early Years or an equivalent qualification, together with appropriate experience in a nursery or educational setting. Experience supporting babies, early years children or pupils in a primary Reception class would be particularly valuable.

• Support babies and young children individually and in small groups, helping them learn, develop and gain confidence.

• Lead engaging group experiences that encourage curiosity and early learning.

• Promote independence, resilience, positive behaviour and emotional regulation.

• Build warm, respectful relationships with children and their families.

• Maintain learning records and contribute to assessments of children’s progress.

• Create an inclusive, nurturing environment in which every child feels safe and valued.

• Recognise differing needs and apply inclusive practice throughout the provision.

• Work flexibly with colleagues to meet the changing needs of the setting.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a sound understanding of child development, inclusion and safeguarding. Appointment is subject to an enhanced DBS check and all relevant pre-employment checks. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK, as visa sponsorship is not available.
