About Childhaven Community Nursery School

Childhaven Community Nursery School is a local authority-maintained nursery school serving children and families in Scarborough, North Yorkshire. As an early years setting, it places babies and nursery-aged children at the centre of a warm, welcoming and inspirational community. Its ethos is rooted in nurture, inclusion, kindness and respect, with individual routines and learning experiences shaped around each child’s development, interests and needs. The school aims to help every child feel secure, valued and confident as they begin their educational journey.

One of only three maintained nursery schools in North Yorkshire, Childhaven offers a distinctive specialist focus on high-quality early education. The school operates from a characterful Victorian building with a garden, providing attractive spaces for exploration, play and purposeful learning. Its provision includes a dedicated Baby Room for children aged 0 to 2, where eating, sleeping and learning are approached sensitively and responsively. Strong relationships with families and the wider local community support the school’s inclusive, child-centred approach.

Working at Childhaven means joining a caring team that values mutual support and places nurture at the heart of daily life for both children and adults. Staff benefit from a varied working environment where no two days are the same, alongside opportunities for professional development and progression within an early years career. Colleagues work collaboratively to create calm, stimulating and supportive experiences, while maintaining high expectations for safeguarding, inclusion and children’s development. The school is well suited to reflective practitioners who enjoy building close relationships with young children and their families.
