Tweendykes School and Sixth Form is seeking a caring and skilled Specialist Teaching and Learning Support Assistant to join its community special school in Hull. You will support pupils aged 3–19 with severe learning difficulties, autism, complex medical needs and communication needs, working individually and with small groups to improve access to learning.
The position includes classroom support and assistance with personal care routines. Applicants should understand how children and young people with complex SEND learn and be committed to promoting their safety, dignity, independence and wider development.
Salary: £25,583–£26,403 FTE; £19,346–£19,966 actual (£13.26–£13.69 per hour).
Hours: 32.5 hours per week, term time plus five days (195 days). Working times are Monday 8:50am–4:15pm; Tuesday and Thursday 8:50am–3:45pm; Wednesday and Friday 8:50am–3:30pm.
Contract: Permanent, part-time and term-time only. The advertised start date is 25 August 2026, subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks.
Support pupils individually and in small groups, helping them engage safely and meaningfully with the curriculum.
Contribute to planning and evaluation, giving teachers regular, detailed feedback on attainment, progress, behaviour and attitudes to learning.
Provide specialist assistance for pupils with SEND, disabilities, personal or health needs, communication needs or English as an additional language.
Help develop and implement individual education plans, behaviour plans and personal care programmes.
Promote pupils’ academic, social, emotional and wider development while building self-esteem and independence.
Use ICT effectively to enhance teaching and learning.
Develop professional relationships with pupils, colleagues and partner organisations, using tact, diplomacy and sound communication skills.
You will need knowledge of the National Curriculum, EYFS guidance and relevant SEND, equality and safeguarding requirements. Appointment is subject to an enhanced DBS check and confirmation of eligibility to work in the UK. Visa sponsorship is not available.
