Witchford Village College is seeking an Autism Communication Support Worker to join its Enhanced Resource Base. Working at higher-level teaching assistant level, you will help secondary-aged students with autism communicate effectively, develop positive relationships, increase their independence and achieve their potential.
The post is 32.5 hours per week, term time only plus five training days, with a full-time equivalent salary of £24,294–£25,979. This is a one-year fixed-term contract, starting as soon as possible. The closing date is 2 September 2026 at 12pm (midday).
Applicants must hold a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent and have relevant experience supporting children or young people with autism and/or Speech, Language and Communication Needs. Visa sponsorship is not available.
Provide person-centred support for students with autism, including those experiencing sensory processing differences, anxiety, demand avoidance or communication barriers.
Use visual supports, social stories, communication boards, TEACCH-informed structured approaches and augmentative and alternative communication strategies.
Adapt communication methods to individual needs, promoting functional communication, self-advocacy and independence.
Support students’ social, emotional and academic progress, including successful participation in mainstream education where appropriate.
Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, families and external professionals to maintain consistent support.
Share effective practice and contribute to relevant training and professional development.
Training in autism, Autism Education Trust programmes, SLCN, sensory processing and regulation would be advantageous. Experience using communication books or electronic communication devices is also desirable.
